Project Aladdin Journal 04-22-2002

Hey, everyone. I don't have much to report, I'm afraid. I've been drawing a total blank on power use records for the west coast. You'd think that would be public domain, but if it is, I can't find it anywhere. Then again, even if it is public domain, the government would find it easy to edit out any suspicious use. I think I may have a few leads via the corporate angle, but nothing firm enough that I want to report it. Basically, I feel like I'm barking up the wrong tree here.

No word from Jackson over the weekend. I don't know what he's up to, but I hope he's ok. His last phonecall really worries me. Not so much because I think he has some sort of super-secret agent after him, but because he is liable to hurt himself somehow. I did, however, get a note in my mailbox from Gabrielle. It was pretty short, but it got to the point quickly.

Patrick. You're working, that's good. This is a useful angle. Work faster. We aren't paying you to sit around. -Gabrielle

Can't you just feel the love? I'm so glad she approves of my methods, but I wonder why she and her associates want me to do this. Wouldn't it be easier if they just did it themselves?

Patrick, it's Bob. You ask, "I wonder why she and her associates want me to do this. Wouldn't it be easier if they just did it themselves?"

Easier, perhaps...but obviously it's not as easily traceable to Gabrielle and friends, if you're doing it. Hey, YOU don't even know who she represents. She may represent someone whose competitive and/or economic interests may be directly affected by this project, now and in the future. And they might not want their involvement in monitoring this thing known and directly attributable. As long as you're the point man, it isn't.

That isn't to say you shouldn't do it, of course. Just because your bankrollers may have their own interests at stake, doesn't mean you shouldn't continue on. Lots of people end up supporting positive things for other than pure motives. This looks like one of those cases.

Patrick, CZ here. Remember all the trouble Californians were having not so long ago with all the power drains in their system? It was all the news for a while there and Governor Gray Davis was in a lot of doo doo for mishandling the power situation in his state. I'm surprised there isn't all sorts of information regarding high power usage during that period and still should be...unless whomever was "really" behind that usage found better ways to hide it.
